MOLITOR XU DESIGN

   NEW YORK

“Working with so many talented architects and engineers has profoundly influenced my way of design. To me, a beautiful design is not about one single piece of furniture or one particular detail; it is an intelligent balance of volume, shape, material, colors and styles. I am not drawn to a particular period, style or color. Appropriate scale, playful mix of texture and material, elegant color pallet, powerful architectural lines blended with graceful curvilinear silhouette, and thoughtful and impeccable details are the essential tools I use in my work.”

Born in Shanghai and educated in Germany, Hong Kong and the U.S., Hong Molitor-Xu, the founder of New York-based interior design firm Molitor Xu Design, has a very unique educational and professional background in both construction management and design that she draws on in every single project she works on.

After a successful career with a major German construction company, she decided to get her degree in Interior Design at the New York School of Interior Design in order to pursue her passion for design, which she has had since she was a child. During this time, her work was featured in Westchester Home magazine as a rising star in design to watch.

While at NYSID, she also interned for highly respected AD 100 interior designers Geoffrey Bradfield and Jamie Drake. At Drake, her skills and her passion for design were immediately apparent and an internship very quickly led to a full-time position as a designer and later on a senior designer/project manager.

During her tenure with Drake Design, she was the leading force behind numerous high-end residential and commercial projects, ranging from a large contemporary house on the Jersey Shore, to apartments in the landmark building One57. Among them, the stunning model apartment at One57 gained the company extensive international media coverage.

“Hong’s superb taste and sophisticated eye was matched with great organizational and process skills, ensuring the projects moved smoothly to fruition. Her zeal and skill are top notch,” says her mentor, renowned designer Jamie Drake. “Her boundless energy and enthusiasm for her work was a pleasure to be around and earned her the admiration, trust and affection of our clients.”
